Question: Is it ok to ask for money not gifts at your wedding shower, to help finance it?

No, bc then people wouldn't show up....it happened to a family member recently and a few people didn't come to the reception bc put monetary donations preferred on the invitation

It is totally OK, just announce on your invitations that there will be a "money tree " present as you are not registered. People like to give gifts, but they should also be willing to help you out with giving you the wedding that you want....besides, what is the difference? Buy a gift or give money..it costs them the same either way : )

I am a VERY independent person. My view-have a wedding you can afford to pay for yourselves. Why should anyone else fund your wedding? Now, if folks want to give cash instead of a gift that's fine, but in no way, shape, or form would I ask for it.
