I have always wondered what that meant too. When I was a kid, my Mom always had a shower to go to. I thought she was being perverted. Seriously. I asked my sister why she had to give these girl friends a shower and their babies. I thought this was the strangest custom. In my mind, I pictured all these women washing this naked lady. It was a totally confusing time in my life. |

My guess, I'm american; and most of us don't know; but I guess it would be that you are being showered with gifts |

Hello, It's because the word, shower also means to give in abundances. Therefore when having a party you are being showered with gifts. Sample: I was showered with so many gifts from my baby shower party! |

Many have used the "showered with gifts " idea, and that's the case: it's a shower in the second sense of transitive verb "shower, " as below: "to give in abundance. " |

The term "shower " is not used for all parties. It refers to a party where a gift is expected to celebrate an occasion (typically for a wedding or the arrival of a baby). The purpose is to provide an opportunity for friends or family to offer gifts to assist the guest(s) of honor in preparing for a new stage in life with appropriate items such as a layette for an infant or household goods for a marrying couple. The recipient is showered with gifts and good wishes. |
