Is it in good shape? Does it have any sentimental value to anyone in your family? Could it be passed down to a niece or the bride of a nephew? There are also ways to repurpose the dress so you could keep a piece of it. If you know anyone with any sewing talent, it could be made into decorative pillows for family members. I have even heard of old wedding dresses being made into accessories for a wedding (ring bearer's pillow, flowers for centerpieces, etc.) It could be a beautiful way to share your mother's gown with family and even have her "presence " at a special family event. |

Consignment or antique shop. is it in good condition? can it be altered? the next time you're in the magazine aisle (and hopefully its empty!) check out some Brtdal magazines and see if the dress looks anything like todays dress. that will give you a better idea of what to do with it. |

Give it to a charity if you do not want it. Lots of women try to sell their wedding dresses once the whole thing has been done with. You only are going to wear it once anyway ! Even if women get divorced and remarry I doubt they would be using the same gown anyway. I know it was the tradition to keep them and pass them down but not anymore. My mother kept hers. It is just something that people do out of sentimentality I suppose. People before were passing their wedding dresses down to the daughters but not anymore ! Nooooooooooo way would I have worn my mothers' lol ! Out of fashion and not my size at all. I gave my wedding dress away by the way. I just do not see the point of keeping something I will never look at anyway. And I am just not that sentimental either..about stuff like that. Some women can have their dresses altered to appear like an evening gown though. But mine would not pass so ! |

Keep it! A daughter in your family will want to wear it one day! My grandmother secretly threw away her 50 year old wedding dress and I wanted to wear it!! (The dress I bought was gorgeous, but STILL!) |

Give it to the salvation army for someone that does not have one. It would be a loving gesture. |

If you want to keep it, there are dry-cleaners who will clean and vacuum-pack it so it will be preserved. That's what my Mom did in 1955, and I wore it on my wedding day! If no-one in your family really wants it, try Ebay. Lots of women woul kill to have a gorgeous vintage wedding dress! |
