Not knocking anyone who wants a dream wedding, but I personally think it's absurd. Especially, if you are only going to wear it for one day. I also dig the courthouse wedding thing.

I agree sending a lot of money on a wedding dress is absurd. Who needs an expenive wedding dress. You can save money on a wedding dress, by renting one or finding a wedding dress second hand.

Unless you have money to burn - I agree with you completely - spending alot of money on a wedding gown is absurd! Remember, even Donald Trump says "Why pay retail? " The courthouse wedding - why not! Couples have to put their priority on what they want to spend money on - the wedding? Or maybe taking all that money and putting it as a downpayment on a house? I'm with you 100% on being practical!

I planned my wedding on a budget so we could have a longer honeymoon. Everyone said it was the best wedding they had been to in a long time. I didn't spend a lot on my wedding dress. It was slimline and simplistic but looked great for a garden wedding. My sister in law spent $10 000 on her dress that was imported. It is a nice dress but I would have preferred to spend my money on something else. I feel as though an expensive wedding is not what they day is supposed to be about. Sure, have a wedding that you are going to feel happy about, but a wedding is about marrying the person you love. Its not about throwing lashings of money around and wasting thousands of dollars on a dress you will only wear once.

It's stupid considering most brides are going to turn into fat nagging wives and their husbands will leave them eventually. Then they'll be at home stuffing their depressed faces with twinkies and staring at the good ol days when they could stuff their big jumbo thighs into that $5000 wedding dress.

Yes i agree, it makes no sense to waste tons of money on a garment to be worn once for a few hours. I paid $500 for mine, which was even a stretch. our whole wedding was about $2000. i was not about to go into debt just to have a party. it doesn't mean i'm not romantic or girly, i'm just more practical.

Personally, I would not do so, but if someone has the money and desire to do so, then MORE POWER TO THEM! It would be wonderful if, someday, I would have such wealth to spend like that! I have NO jealousy of those who have wealth, just a longing to BE one of them someday! You have to remember that there are a LOT of "middle class " people who DEPEND upon that $10,000 dress! The fabric manufacturer, the seamstresses, the designers, the delivery people, the sales people... LOTS of people need those big-ticket items to be sold, or they wouldn't have jobs/ income themselves! BTW... this really is not an ETIQUETTE question... but thanks for asking! Have a polite day.

You get what you pay for. When I got married the "Cheap " Dresses looked like I was having my First Communion, instead of getting married. So I went for a better quality dress, and felt like a real woman for the first time in my life.

I think it's a personal choice. I personally didn't spend alot of money on my wedding dress. I bought my wedding gown on-line from Gioavonni's Bridal Boutique. It was a custom gown knock off. I got the look that I wanted for the price that my parents wanted. It was a win-win situation.

It's a very personal thing, but I agree with you that it's a bit crazy. When I got married we spent 50 GBP on the wedding dress and it was fabulous. What's the point in spending thousands for something you will DEFINITELY wear only once? I mean, even if you will marry more than once, you will have a different dress every time... many people rent it and I think it's not a bad idea.
