Question: If a man has a ring (wedding band) on the right hand, does it mean he's gay?

Im a female and like this Doctor at work. But he has a wedding band on his right hand. Does that mean he's gay? I mentioned it to a friend of mine and she said it means he's gay. My sister though who lives in Florida said that he may just be switching it when hes away from his wife so he doesnt appear married to others. Either way. What if he just didnt know it meant that? If it does?

He might be switching it to hide it...but I feel like most guys would just leave it in their car or pocket or something. I'm going to go with "No, he's not gay. " Or he might just have a plain old ring he wears on his right hand. Does he seem a family man and traditional? Could be a mother or grandmother's ring, sort of an heirloom. And yes, other cultures/ religions put the wedding ring on the opposite hand. I'm Ukrainian Orthodox, and the traditional wedding ceremony (which my sister just did a year ago) puts the wedding rings on the right finger (as far as they go...her husband's didn't fit very far), because that's just how they do it. They switched the rings to left after (because that's the American tradition). The priest at my church was married in Ukraine, so he always has his ring on the right hand, regardless of the fact that he's in America. Tidbit: The tradition of wearing the ring on the left hand stemmed from Ancient Egypt, because the left hand is closer to the heart. Those cultures that wear it on the right hand do so because back in the day during coronation of the monarch, the ring went on the right hand (he was then "married " to the country). To go along with that, I know that eastern Orthodox wedding ceremonies still use the "crowning, " which I believe is a reference to the old monarch coronation ceremony. A good number of European countries still do the right hand ring, rather than left. It's starting to change though. Here's something interesting from Wikipedia...after a partner's death many will continue to wear their wedding ring, sometimes on the other hand. I'm going to guess that you're young to crush on a doctor at work, and I'm going to assume he's rather young too. But you never know, he may have gotten married before med school and lost his spouse. Keep that in mind before you flirt too much. It could be true, and it could have been recent.

It doesn't necessarily mean he's gay. Some widowed individuals switch their wedding bands to the opposite finger. In some countries such as Lithuania, the ring finger is used on the right hand, not the left. Or like you say, he could be switching it while he's away from his wife. The possibilities are endless so you won't know unless you ask or he tells you I guess.

Its not necessary at all that one have to wear his ring on the left hand only. It varies from culture to culture. One can change it, but that never changes his orientation. Just go to him and ask, straight away. Thats the best way to end your restlessness.

Not necessarily. I know one of my teachers is straight and married, and he has his ring on the right hand. It's because he's left-handed, and it often gets in the way when he's writing (holding the pen/ cil).
