Question: Will rap and hip hop culture ever die or become uncool?
(Posted by: on 2009-08-06 19:15:39)
I can't wait until rap and hip hop is a thing of the past. Something people look back on and laugh and say "what the HELL was I thinking! " But its disgusting rolling juggernaut of chauvinistic sexualization of women, its meaningless nonsensical violent fruitless lyrics still seem to percolate down through society latching onto kids who think "its cool " to treat women like nothing more than booty shaking pieces of meat and treat your fellow man like something to loathed and be dominated through violence for the sake monetary gain. I'm sickened by its popularity. Hip hop and rap has already began to die in my opinion. At least in a pure sense. Most of of the stuff you here these days is a blend of pop and rap with a touch of European techno. This is the only way it can truly survive. |

I completely agree with you. Completely. Rap is sick and it is downgrading to all women. However here is the thing, most women enjoy it and actually go along with it and become whores just to be appreciated by what they think everyone wants. |

You must only be listening to mainstream rap because there are many rappers who rap about social issues and their life. i dont listen to ghetto rappers but you should try q-tip, k'naan, and lupe fiasco. try them before you bash rap. if its not for you then thats okay but dont knock them. |

Hey man, I got some sad news for you. Rap will never die. It's a legacy of storytelling, hard times and real life - not what the media chooses to report ((Fox News)). I can understand how you don't like today's rap music, because yeah for the most part its all the same and a major mockery of artists like NWA and Slick Rick. But if you listen to anything >1998, you'll see that the music mostly reflects real life, and the music was a way express this reality to the world. Grandmaster Flash once said "Broken glass everywhere, People pissing on the stairs, you know they just Dont care, I cant take the smell, I cant take the noise Got no money to move out, I guess I got no choice. Rats in the front room, roaches in the back, Junkies in the alley with a baseball bat. I tried to get away, but I couldnt get far Cause the man with the tow-truck repossessed my car " That lyric describes the harsh reality of the times he lived in. He was talking about being stuck in some run-down apartment with gangs and drugs and whores everywhere because a racist society of the day wouldn't give them a decent job. "They say America is the land of the free, but the first thing I'v seen was slavery " -- MC Ren Hip Hop will NEVER die. Real Hip Hop, that is. If you don't like it, that's fine. But until you take a look into what it's really about, DON'T TALK SMACK! |

I'm not one to totally judge things and often times I see the glass as half full. Yeah, I think it should die out. I agree with the user who said it will change but not die. Hip Hop and Rap as music and culture is way overrated. It totally took over the airwaves. Media wouldn't be "dull " without it, there is plenty of room for better subcultures to fill it's void. Unfortunately it probably will not die. Hip Hop as a culture can be pretty hostile at times. People with proper manners and conservative values are seen as outsiders and haters by some. Some hip hop enthusiasts (or stereotypical blacks) seemed perplexed just by me not willing to connect with them. (kind of like the guy on the street downtown who wants to be your buddy) Nothing wrong with proper manners, improper manners, your mom, or my mom, I just want to shoot the thought police which come in all stripes. |

Hip hop is sort of dying right now because of those talentless artists out there, and they just rap about those stuff you just mentioned. But no, I don't think hip hop will ever die. Hopefully it won't get into conscious hip hop, which is boring. |

Not all rap is what you described. the rappers who degrade woman are doing so because they are sh*t and want to fit this stereotype. in that sense, rap is bad. but how can you hope for rap to die out after all it did? when rap originated, it gave the black minorities of america a voice to speak! it was urban poetry. the baggy clothes, don't give a f*ck attitude and the degrading of women came with the money once it became big to show their wealth. the guns and violence became part of it because a lot of drug dealers started to do it and violence was all they knew. they could do it because of the stories they had to share. basically what i'm trying to say is that yes it has its bad points but what doesn't? i hope it stays around but only because of what it has done. if it continues down the road its on then i do hope it dies out unfortunately |

This is what was said about Rock n Roll 50 years ago people thought that it was too controversial and will eventually die down. Now look at it. Hip Hop is the new Rock N Roll, it's just in its early stages. People still think that rap is too controversial and will die down soon. Well I got news for you man just like Rock n roll, hip hop isn't going anywhere so get used to it. |

Hip hop has been around for 40 years, it has already proved it is more than a fad and is here to stay. chauvinistic....booty shaking....you know the same things were said about rock n roll, jazz, etc. |
