Can someone tell me what makes a good rapper/hip hop artists?

Question: Can someone tell me what makes a good rapper/hip hop artists?

(Posted by: on 2010-08-12 06:30:41)

Okay, whenever people are talking about rap/ hip hop, whenever some1 mentions lil wayne, someone says "Oh my god hes crap " but Tupac and Biggie are legends. I could see what they mean if they mean tupac/ biggie had better lyrics and "flow " (btw the way what is flow) but I cant really tell the difference except lil wayne uses auto tune, 2 me rap is just talking fast to a beat So what makes a good rapper, the lyrics, the flow of the rapper, what makes 2pac/ Biggie the legends and lil wayne crap.

Any body can rap like any rapper out there they just choose the ones that have horrible lives to rap about

Because rappers back in the day had something to say. Whether it was something to put you in a good mood or to let you know about everyday life. Rappers like lil wayne these days talk about the club, drinking, smoking, and bitch this, whore that, ect. Rappers now days don't have anything to say that's worth listening too. They lack substance. Its a combination of pants that don't fit, auto tune (because they can't hold a tune themselves). On top of all that, its turned into a dick measuring contest by rappers constantly boasting about themselves having the most money, having the best rhymes, the best style, and about how no one else even comes close, and this and that and yada yada yada. Personally, I think it borderlines either insecurity or nacissism. One of the two. I would have to go with the latter.

The quality of music.... Biggie had lyrics, and attacked beats with a agression that was felt. He made the rap tangible so to speak.. Lil Wayne literally does what anyone can do....which is speak into a mic. The things he says arn't very thought provoking in any shape or form for the most part....imagery sucks....his metaphors/ similies are basic....there is nothing you can really get from his raps other than his weezy voice and ad-libs... Flow is how you say the lines in your verses....fast...slow....in relation to the drums....in relation to the melody...all that goes into flow..... If you can't tell the difference between Wayne and Biggie as far as flow goes then you need to train your ear....Huge difference there.... Rap isn't talking fast to a beat....Rhythm, a understandment of melodies, timing, breath Control, wordplay, imagery, while having your own style to present it in is what rap is....among other things i didn't mention....

Flow is like the way you say your lyrics, it's like a rhythm to your words sort of. If you wanna hear someone with flow, listen to Nas, Eazy-E, Mobb Deep,or Big L. Also, lyrics make the rapper. It's the meaning behind them that makes people dislike Lil Wayne. When he says something like "Call me the Referee cause I be so official " I could see how some peopel like that, but does it really mean anything significant? No, not really. Other rappers (some of them) actually have meaning to what they say.

Rap about meaningful things, and people will respect you. your raps should silence a room full of people, thats shows how good you are.

You got to feel the beat. When you hear it, lyrics pop into your head. They don't always have to be about money, cars, and whores. It can be about how good you are (check "The Symphony " by Marley Marl) love, ( "All I Need " by Method Man ft. Mary J Blige), what pisses you off ( "Marshall Mathers " by Eminem), what you see on the streets ( "Ill Street Blues " by Kool G Rap), a story ( "Dancing with the Devil " by Immortal Technique), spreading a message ( "Goodbye " by P.O.S.), making your way ( "Bridging the Gap " by NaS), representing your city ( "Ill State of Mind " by Neeko ft.Tony 2-Step), expressing yourself ( "Express Yourself " by N.W.A.), or just overall having a good time ( "'Bout to Get Ugly " by Mark Ronson ft. Rhymefest & Anthony Hamilton). It's pretty clear Dwayne Carter (Yeah, he took off a D and added a "Lil ") does all of his songs, not because he particularly enjoys it, but because he knows people today are so ignorant of the way rap used to be that they will enjoy his music. Dwayne simply raps for the pop charts which gives him a lot of money, making him even more cocky and greedy. 2Pac and Biggie did not care what others thought of their music. They would have continued to do what they did regardless of whether or not they we famous in the Hip-Hop Industry. They were true street poets, not record booth thugs.
