A it's only a few hours of a day in an entire year B parents are not "mean " for refusing to buy candy for their children C trick-or-treating is more or less in the same spirit as a christmas celebration |

Well, it's a tradition and it's fun. plus it's other people's money that they're spending. who would srsly want to spend their money on candy. costumes are one thing because they can use them year round, which makes them brighter and usually better in school. it's actually the opposite of being mean because during this time of year, what do parents do to misbehaving children? they dont allow them to go trick or treating. its once a year, get in the season i: |

Trick or Treat is a new phenomenon in the UK which has only been going for a few short years. When I was a child there was no such thing, but people did dress for halloween parties and stuff like that. Trick or Treat is an American tradition that has found it's way into British society. I'm not knocking it, but it is not a tradition in the UK as much as it is in America. The closest thing the British had to this ritual was 'Penny for the Guy' which dates back further than the American Trick or Treat. It's a rarity to see children collecting for the 'Guy' these days. Next thing you know we will be celebrating 'Thanksgiving' with a turkey and all the trimmings! |

It's a trust thing, but many messed up people are out there, so we keep a parent nearby, check our candy before we eat it, and even though we go to stranger's doors, we don't walk right in and don't let them too close to us. |
