Halloween haunted house?

Question: Halloween haunted house?

(Posted by: Life Sucks Hell on 2008-10-19 10:16:49)

My class is making a haunted house for school and were looking for a couple of ideas. We have some stuff. But we dont really have a budget. We were thinking maybe, more hands on things or more things we can make rather than things we an buy. Any ideas. Oh and were bringing other classes in to see it so we need some ideas for some little kids that are gonna be coming to see it so it wouldnt be too scary for them but scary for the other ones.

I have been doing home haunts for the past 15 years and money is always an issue. I got very tired of buying props as they are so expensive, so we started making all of our own props. It's pretty easy to do and there are tons of websites with step by step directions. Here are a few ideas that are cheap to work on the look of your haunted house. Use black painters plastic to make walls or cover walls! It comes in different size rolls for any budget. Hanging that for walls and to make "breaks " between rooms. If anyone will be passing near windows, Paint them with a water based paint. We had an illusion inside one of the windows and made people walk up to look inside. A "peppers ghost " or "flying crank ghost " illusion looks great. If you can't do any of that just cutting out a silhouette and placing a red, black, or any eerie light in the room will create the right effect. I took large dead tree branches about 4-6 feet tall ones and screwed them together to make dead trees. The bagged cobwebs are inexpensive and can create a great look as well as protect people from touching your props. If you have the time and effort making a bottomless pit is a great effect especially outside where it is more believable. Fog is of course important! But if you have an old cooler you can make a fog chiller to chill the fog keeping it creeping along the ground instead of just flying up and away. Making gravestones is good! An added touch is to take a dark towel, place it in front of the grave, cover it with dirt then place a hand or head like it's a fresh grave and something's coming out. Get a couple of spot lights paint them red (spray paint on regular bulbs works) and highlight some of your better props. It also works well when you want their attention away from where an actor may be hiding to scare. A couple of full sized stuffed dummy's laying around get their guards down so that when you dress an actor the same way and make it obvious that they are stuffed, when the people walk by that when you strike! Well hope those helped! You can check out what we have done for the past few years on our website, FernleyHalloween.com , although I have not updated it from last year. We started just like you and now is a small town we had over 1200 people and the TV and News papers both did stories on us. Source(s): Check out hauntershangout.com and halloweenmonsterlist.info/ for some prop building ideas too.

I like to make fake blood and slosh it around to make my House extra spooky. Heres the recipie; FAKE BLOOD 1: Paint brush 2: Corn sirup (white) 3: Empty jar 4: cocoa powder 5: food colouring (red, blue, yellow, green) start by pouring some cornsirup in the empty jar. fill it about half way.next add some red food coloring drops (about 3-4). next seal the lid of your jar with the corn sirup in it and make sure its tightly sealed then spin it up and down up and down until you see its fully mixed (no lines mosty red).ok,once you have mixed the red with the corn sirup leave the bottle up right until all the liquid drains to the bottom of the jar.Your still not done,do you notice the light red well human blood is more darker and thicker,so to make it more human like add just a tad of blue to make it darker so just add 1 or 2 drops in,so what you really want to do is to spin it up and down simillar to befor. try to spin it just a little slower and since you cant go backwards start with a little and work up to 2 drops of blue.Ok, now that your fake blood is welly mixed use your paint brush to take some out. spread some on the plastic and if its to purpley add some more red. since your facke blood is really watery and runny add some of your cocoa powder maybey about 1 or 2 tea spoons of cocoa maximum, for only half of the jar put half of 1 tea spoon, you can also try adding milk but youd half to use that blood fast beascause as we all know milk can get spoiled so youd have to make it on halloween day and use it then. now that youved added you cocoa powder mix it well. let it sit for a few minutes, cheack it on another pice of plastic and if its thick enought your done. WARNING: do not eat drink or get on clothes this may stain it permanatly.

To create the atmosphere as well as wall dividers, get big cardboard boxes (stores will be willing to donate) and paint them. You could paint scenes and backgrounds, but if you don't have anyone that feels particularly talented in art, just splatter lots of red for blood. If you only used red, that would also keep the cost down. But you could also get some people to bring in ketchup and it would have the same effect. It may even look more real because it dries thick and dark like real blood.

There are some materials u can buy like spider webs at a 99 cent store for a buck, use carboard for props, use aluiminum cans to noise, use those pop fireworks that when u throw they make a poping sound, u could lay some where ppl are going to walk through.online u could find spooky noise to add a more scarier touch, look on google.com

Make some of the houses and such look like the ones from the Cabinate of Dr. Caligari. Have strobe lights/ colour changing lights Hire someone to pretend to get killed with blood and such, so they think it is real. Get someone on the inside. Get a fake chainsaw type toy, paint it, and play a chainsaw noise and hit some people with it. Make a Ring type video and loop it. No cobwebs. It looks cheezey.

Use multicolored lights to give different effects. red, blue, green. also a strobe light gives off some really great effects. Black lights and glow in the dark paint really change the lighting in the room. Mirrors- bent mirrors, angled mirrors, see through mirrors. People tend to be scared by what they can't see and even more scared if they aren't sure whether or not what they do see is real or not.
