Question: Does anyone else find halloween haunted houses disappointing because they are not easily scared?
(Posted by: Fiona on 2008-09-23 16:48:36)
Haunted houses (the Halloween kind, not real ones) don't scare me. I usually end up laughing at all my friends who are jumping and screaming (gee - is that mean?). There are also other aspects of haunted houses I don't like - the gore and themes like execution and insane asylums. However, there are other parts that I wish would scare me because I think it would be more fun! Anyone else like this? securiteeboyz: Yes, I went through a pitch- black maze one time and that was disturbing! |

Maybe you should work behind the scenes. I've been in the haunt industry for awhile and yeah, I'm kinda over the scare thing. I visit haunts every year but the teenagers popping bubblegum screaming BOOO from dark corners don't really do it for me. I go more to see the atmosphere, to watch my friends reactions, to see the animatronics, to see the design of the place, and so on. Gore, execution, insane asylums are par for the course but they do get a little wearying. I mean, they're sure-fire scares for most people, but I like to see a little effort be put into how they're used, or coming up with new scares. There's a tradeshow for the haunt industry every year in March, and usually some local haunt will open up for the event. Now that's a brave owner: placing himself under the scrutiny of a HUGE group of people who don't scare and will be scrutinizing every aspect of his show. And over the years there have been some misses, but more hits, thank goodness. I've had more fun working backstage and scaring folks. My favorite scare is simply to walk up behind someone not paying attention and follow them around silently. Freaks them out when they finally realize someone is behind them! |

NO..I am too easy. I get scared from my own damn decorations! I have this ghost in a tree outside, and every time it moans I freak out. But I LOVE IT!. Last year I hung a witch on the front door and a few weeks later I thought it was someone peeking in the window. Had to wake up hubby and make him check LOLOL. |

Well, haunted houses are mainly aimed towards kids... the only way to make a real haunted house to scare somebody in is to... well, NOT announce that it's haunted in any way... like, scare tactics or something... the most scary thing i can think of is... just like, a shadow person... you know? like, a strange figure in the darkness that you can't really make out too well... seeing that come out of nowhere would scare the s**t out of anybody! |

No, it's either really sick or just totally lame and not scary at all. There's this fair that goes on around here where you go on a "Haunted Walk ". These people are supposed to jump out and scare you but I always saw them! They hid in the worst spots ever! It was so stupid but at the same time a lot of fun. I picked on our tour guide a lot. |

I usually don't find myself scared at a haunt just b/ c I know it's not real, but I still love going to them. i get more disappointed if a haunt is too short, b/ c most of them are short. But claustrophobic areas have definitely scared me, at one I went to in Pontiac MI they filled the room with plastic balls and I couldn't move or hardly breath, it was truely scary. I agree that gore and such aren't nessecary at all, they don't scare me one bit. The thing that scares is the suprise element and a lot of haunts have somehow forgotten that, they just show scary "scenes ". but there are some great haunts out there and they are the ones that keep halloween haunted houses alive. I know I'm going to some this year. |
