Question: Need help with halloween haunted house in basement.?
(Posted by: Pixie on 2008-08-19 14:13:58)
We are doing our full basement for halloween, and have split it up into 9 rooms. Nightmare room(child's room), Alien room, Bug room, Witches room, Laboratory, Crime Scene room, Vampire room, Dining room, and Kitchen. We are not going for a child friendly theme, Lol. So if anyone can think of anything that can go in the rooms, that would be great. Or any special effects we could do. We also are doing the front yard as a cemetery. And we have a deck, But we don't know if we can do anything with that yet. Please and thank you. |

For the bug room you can buy battery operated spiders, cockroaches, etc and have them crawling all over the floor. I would also lay a rug down with some chips underneath so when it is stepped on it sounds like you are stepping on bugs. Witches room I would have a smoke making machine and a green strobe light inside a big cauldron with different fake body parts hanging throughout the room and jars that have fake eyeballs, ears, and hands floating in them. Put a few drops of green food coloring in the jars. For the crime scene room of course have fake blood everywhere, furniture over turned and papers scattered on the floor, and have a dummy on the floor for the victim. Have a fake knife sticking from its chest. Try to make it look as real as possible so the people walking through think its a real person laying there so they are waiting for them to jump up when its not going to. Instead have someone dressed up as the murder hiding behind something and when they are looking at the dead body have the murder jump out with a fake knife. |

First of all AWESOME!!!! I am doing a whole haunted house based on children's nightmares and stuff. Its turning out pretty cool. Anyways...back to your question. For the Nightmare room you could add bloody stuffed animals, hang fun color sheets. Like with dinos or butterflies on them make it really childish and then just splash *FAKE* blood on them here or there. lol For an alien room make tentacles out of spray foam and paint them what ever color you want them. it really cool. Then just add siren light and fake toxic waster cans. For a bug room is really easy. Just hang as much fake bugs as you can and nail them to the wall so they have to touch them. make sure you make it all dark so they touch the walls not knowing what they are touching or going. Hang fishing string so they can go through them. Making it feel they are going through cob webs. For a witches room. Have bubbly sound effects. Have a wichtes coldren and have a fog machine. The crime scene room make curtains with that crime tape. blood everywhere and have like a crazy maniac scare ppl. For a vampire room make it. Dark and eerie. Put those fake tourches of fire and coffins with ppl hidding in it. But spider web and dark sheets for curtains. For the dining room and kitchen have fake body parts all bloody and have dead cooks to scare the people. Now remember dont thing you need to have lots of decorations. Less is more. Have enough lighting for people to see where they are going but still make it dark and spooky. Hope it help :D |

For the front yard Get a LARGE couldron and get dried ice so it's like a fog machine, My friend did that one year and it was extremely cool. A nightmare room should have lots of fake blood and ghosts and zombies and such large spider and spider web constructing the view would also be very cool. In an alien room I would try To make a UFO out of cardboard and cut a hole in the bottom and put a green light on the inside so it's like a beam. For the vampire room Get a "body " and puncture 2 holes in the neck and cover them with blood and Have someone dress up as a vampire to stay in the room to scare the people as they come and go. For the bug room Lots of fake spiders cockroaches centipedes and such, with a black light. For the witches room Maybe try the fog machine idea Only put the dried ice in a couldron with water that has green food coloring in it so that the fog will be green and have a few people stirring around it and chanting "spells " For the laboratory Glass clear glass vases filled with colored water would look cool, and you can find some harmless recipes online that when adding 2 chemicals it will bubble I did that in 5th grade for a volcano. For the crime scene room tons of blood and muddy foot prints have everything overturned and scattered. In your dining room have refreshments and food for the people coming. |
