Your main concern is the gear ratio. you can look up this by the numbers stamped on the axle. There should be a tag attached to one of the bolts on the rear cap. This will tell you the information that you need. Once you have the gear ratio, you can get one from a salvage yard. Most rear wheel drive cars of the same body type will work. Camero's are common in salvage yards and you should be able to find one that works. You can ask look up which numbers are posi axles as this is a good upgrade and find one from there. I must warn you posi's were rare. Some of the pickups of the same year will also work. Just use the pumpkin and leave your housing and axles as is. You may want to do a little checking on what gear ratio works best for your combination of engine, trans and final drive ratio. You may be able to use more of the power you have. This depends on how you want to drive it. P.S. I once put a 507 caddy in an 84 with a little oil pan mod and left the v6 drive train alone. the combo turned out pretty good, everything bolts. |

Your main concern seems to be a fit. Firebirds and Camaros are interchangeable for most everything except body parts and some of those will interchange. |

The Camaro rear end will fit, BUT, if you are wanting a limited slip differential then that is a shot in the dark, not all Camaro or Z28's were posi rear ends. For direct replacement, your going to have to get a rear end out of another Trans Am. That is the guarantee that it will be a limited slip. And as stated, make sure your final gear ratio is the same. A rear end out of a 5 speed is a lower gear than one out of an automatic car. |

Limited slip and posi is the same thing. You will be on a long hunt for a stock posi rear end, very few F bodies got posi to tell you the truth. The ONLY rear ends (full axle housing and all) that will fit is the F body ones. 1982-92 camaro and firebird. The 4th gen f body rear swap is pretty common and will bolt right in, but you will need 4th gen rear wheels.. So 1993-2002 camaro and firebird. So again any 1982 to 2002 camaro or firebird rear end will fit under yours. Good luck finding a posi one though. |
