Question: Restoring 1968 pontiac gto judge?
(Posted by: on 2012-02-05 21:38:02)
I have the car so i don't need to spend money on buying it its in a collapsed barn but it looks to be alright... its got some rust on it and maybe a few dents. just ballpark estimate how much do you think it would cost to get this car back to stock and running with new paint and interior |

There actually is no such thing as a '68 GTO Judge; '69 was the first year for The Judge. So figure out what you really have first. A real GTO Judge can be worth 35-45 grand if properly restored, but you'd probably have to sink at least 15 grand into it to get to that point (depending on what it needs). But honestly nobody knows this car better than you do... You gotta find out what it really is, pull it out of the barn, clean it up a bit, etc. All the details are crucial when estimating this stuff and I'm assuming it's an almost complete car with powertrain that just sat for a long time (since you didn't mention otherwise). It will probably need an engine rebuild and that will cost quite a bit if you get it done right with quality parts. Make sure it's a place that knows Pontiac engines well if you aren't gonna do it yourself. Good luck. That's awesome if you got a real GTO Judge or even regular GTO in a barn that's been untouched for decades. That's what many guys only dream about! Even if it turns out to be a Lemans, you can still restore that possibly into a GTO clone. |

How long has it been in the barn? The engine may be seized and a new one could cost a couple of thousand, but if the body is good it could be well worth it. |

Good paint = 2k grand Interior = 1.5 grand And engine, drivetrain and tranny? Oh my. Wonderful all star of a car, but you best have some cash on hand to get it road ready. |

Depending on condition of car and drive train, could cost from $1,000 to $10,000 for restoration.you'll need these. phoenixgraphix.com/ gm/ 1969jdg.htm ultimategto.com/ cgi-bin/ statsexplorer.cgi?year= 1969 &f1= clrinterior carbodyparts.net/ 1969-pontiac-gto-inventory.html There's more available.Except for hood and rear spoiler, front air dam and certain under hood parts, you can use body parts from any good condition 69 GTO.Have fun. |

I can't see the car but the body work will cost you in there's dents and rust. If it sat for a long time without running you'll probably have to replace the seals lubricate the bearings , rings all that good stuff Be prepared to do some searching for parts. They're available. The rear main seal is the old rope style. they always tended to leak a little even new. It's a very easy motor to work on, |

They did make the judge in '68 Most of them were sold as '69's but there are some registered as 68's. |

Besides the body, engine, and trans, you can also figure on every hose or rubber seal is dry rotted and will need to be replaced. |
