I have heard many times that a detriot Lion player died on the field once in a game against the Bears. he had a heart attack or something after seeing Dick Butkus heading his way and hitting him hard thanks!

The player referred to in the first answer was Chuck Hughes, a wide receiver for the Detroit Lions. He had a fatal heart attack on the field in a game against the Chicago Bears in 1971.
