How much is this worth? football memorabilia / antique?

Question: How much is this worth? football memorabilia / antique?

(Posted by: In need of help on 2009-03-09 15:40:33)

I recently inherited a signed leather Football from my grandfather who passed away. He was an avid liverpool fan and a member of the supporters club for some time. After Liverpool won the FA cup in the 1964 - 1965 season, the Liverpool supporters club held a raffle in which the winning prize was a leather football signed by all of the FA cup winning team. The signatures are a bit faded now and the ball is slightly deflated. However i was curious if anyone knows how much an item like this is worth. Of course some of the team have passed away since this item was signed and it would need some restoration. But how much would it be worth to a potential buyer? would the Anfield Museum be willing to purchase it? and how much would it cost to insure? Any ideas? I've obviously misworded this and i'm sorry if it's left people thinking i'm trying to cash in on this item. That is not my intention i am just curious as to how much this sort of item is worth and how much it costs to insure. Also i was wondering about the anfield museum cos if it does go anywhere it'll end up there because thats where he would have wanted it. Please don't question my intentions with the ball when you have no actual knowledge towards who i am, where i'm from or the situation i am in regarding family relations. thank you. i am simply curious to the value of the ball.

If it was left to you by your Grandfather surely the price is immaterial it should be treasured by you and not have a price on its head

Go to some antiques sites and compare it to similar items

I would be very suprised if it is worth anything. I am suprised thou that you are thinking of selling somthing that your grandfather obviosly cherished as he kept it for so many years and felt fit to leave it to you. Anfield Museum would be willing to do any restoration that may be required and would display the ball but I don`t think they would buy it.

You are obviously not a Liverpool fan as this item to a true Liverpool fan would be PRICELESS!!!!!! You are obviously not much of a family person either as if you were you wouldn't question the value of something handed down by your grandfather which he obviously cherished!!!! You should NEVER sell this, and should you get sense and pass it down to your grandchild you should teach them how the value of things is not always measured by how much it is worth!!!

Sorry can't help you, but i myself was left something that belonged to my grandfather..a 1933 cup final ticket and a England v Scotland ticket played at the tripoli stadium 1943, i am just as curious as you are about value and would love some info to the England v Scotland ticket, was it a football match? was it army personnel playing or actual players. Have you tried contacting Anfield? maybe you could take a photo and send it to Christies/ Southerbies etc with a accompanying letter. Good luck.

There are specialist in this kind of thing, have a word at your local auctioneers for advice, maybe worth a google search.

I have to agree with most don't sell it, it's priceless. Get insured that will prob give you an estimation of its market value
