Right pro documentary makers have some interesting solutions. If you watched the making-of for any of David Attenboroughs shows, you'll probably have seen some things similar. One thing to try is a fish tank, you've just got to be careful that the setup doesn't sink. I would think a rigid boom with a fish tank at the end of it is feasible, and will not sink. Secondly you could try something similar to this device. photojojo.com/ store/ awesomeness/ candid-photography-spy-lens/ Stick that into the water vertically so that your lens doesn't touch tthe water and you should be fine too. I would try to use it with something like a Manfrotto 190XPROB or 055OXPROB tripod, with the column set horizontally with a counter balance. Next, something that I saw in the James Bond film Thunderball. I know it sounds a little bit wishy washy, but the concept behind it is good. Large black funnel placed over the lens (like a lens hood but much much bigger) will allow you to see down into the water without the lens getting wet or having problems with reflections. |
