Question: Digital camera underwater housing substitute?

I have really been wanting to take some interesting photos underwater, but housing is way too expensive and I am kind of scared to put it in a ziplock bag like people have been telling me. Any other suggestions?

If your camera is worth a lot to you I would not be chancing it with anything that might leak. Have you considered using a disposable under water film camera? These can take some half decent shots.

I definitely agree with you that proprietary underwater cases are way too expensive!!! they cost almost half the price of your camera, most of the time as I can see in most shops. What i have is a Dicapac... its really cheap and safe for your camera but of course for a certain depth only. it has a different sizes for diff camera models.
