Best digital camera/printer combo?

Question: Best digital camera/printer combo?

(Posted by: llamallama on 2010-12-18 10:31:59)

My mom has taken a looooong time to convert to digital cameras from her 35mm (which she has almost never developed), and has finally agreed to get a digital camera. I'm looking for a high quality camera with a printer, for a reasonable price. They don't have to come together, just have both available that are user friendly, but it would be cool to get a combo pack.

There is nothing wrong with sticking to 35mm, perhaps you should just get her a giftcard to Target for processing if she enjoys her old camera. Buying her a digital camera and printer is going to require she learn how to operate both which will take quite a bit of learning if she is not willing or tech savvy. With her film camera, she can have the film scanned at internet resolution to share online if she does that or simply have her 4x6 prints made for her as she's used to. At any rate, you'll need to outline an actual budget to make this decision. There is no one best camera or one best printer for everyone or every application. And without a pricepoint, I can't tell you if you should spend $300 on a P &S, $1k on a decent DSLR and lenses. As far as the camera goes, I would take your mom out shopping to try them out in person since she is clearly a little picky about what she uses and will probably want something with particular features that feels comfortable for her. A DSLR might be more comparable to what she is used to than a point and shoot. The Nikon D3000 is popular this year for an entry level DSLR. I would suggest she take her memory card to the local lab for prints as oppose to doing it at home so she doesn't have to deal with that whole process. More likely than not, if she's anything like most of our parents, she'll just get annoyed with the thing and stop using it. Particularly when it runs out of ink or something. Good luck!

I have two Canon dslr cameras and I have a Canon Pixma 960 3-way printer (scan, copy, print) and it's an excellent combination. Package deal, sold separately - about $600.
